Short Biography

I am vice-dean education and professor econometrics of macro-finance at Erasmus University Rotterdam. I believe that education and research are essential for fostering a healthy and sustainable society, benefiting both communities and individuals. My mission is to lead and actively engage in education and research.

As vice-dean of education I am responsible for the strategic development of education at the Erasmus School of Economics, a school with about 7,000 students and 350 fte staff. My portfolio includes strategic management of the education portfolio and vision development for innovation in teaching. I am part of the Management Team of the school and supervisory board ('RvC') member of the EUR-affiliated IHS BV.

As professor at the department of Econometrics I do research in the domain of the interaction between macro- and financial economics, with emphasis on econometric methods and techniques such as time series analysis and factor modeling. I teach a course in our quantitative finance master program on quantitative methods for fixed income (with about 150 students yearly), supervise master thesis students and am lecturer in a massive open online course (MOOC) at Coursera with 100k+ learners in total.

My work has been published in journals in the fields of econometrics, economics and finance, such as the Journal of Econometrics, Economic Journal and the Journal of Financial Economics. My work is presented regularly at major international conferences. I referee papers for numerous international journals, am Associate Editor at the International Journal of Forecasting and regularly am on program committees of national and international conferences.
