Teaching

Teaching philosophy

I train students to think economically about data. This means understanding how data was generated, arguing the value added of their methods, interpreting findings in context, and communicating them to broader audiences.

Courses

Erasmus University Rotterdam

  • Applied Econometrics (Masters) — Causal inference methods including instrumental variables, regression discontinuity, and difference-in-differences. Focus on identification strategies and credible empirical research.
  • Data Science and HR Analytics (Masters) — Machine learning for economists. When and why to use ML methods, with applications to organizational decision-making. This is not a course for statisticians—we care about incentives, equilibrium effects, causation, and welfare, not just prediction accuracy.
  • Algorithms and Human Decisions (Bachelors, in development) — AI in hiring, screening, and management. When should firms trust algorithmic recommendations? How do algorithms affect worker outcomes?
  • Economics of Markets and Organizations (Bachelors, in development) — AI applications in labor markets and competition policy.
